What The World Needs Now, More Than Ever, If That Is Possible…

note-left-at-the-wagon-2016

Stopped by the self-serve apple wagon at noon to check on things and spotted a note in the money jar.  (See above)

It made my day.  DM

It’s going in my scrap book ;-)..may even make a copy of it and put it on the wall, with some other encouraging feedback. btw. one of your comments on my blog is already “on the wall”. I read them when I need a little encouragement. 🙂 DM

Wow! Which one?…if you don’t mind my asking!

      • DM says:

If I could remember which post it was on, I would post the link (but I don’t) 🙂 You said, ” I’ve only been reading for just over a year but I’ll tell you, you’re one of my favorites. I have you set to come in to my e-mail every Monday morning. I love the beauty and simplicity of your stories. They remind me of Quaker stories. Simple tales that hit hard with meaning Refreshing. Keep blogging! And….consider a book ;)” End of quote.

Awww, yes. And every word of it is still true. That’s when I was lucky enough to find out you have books! Feels good to know my comment touched you.

Nice! I’m a long way from having an apple cart. One of my two 3-year old trees (granny smiths) fell over at the ground last month. The gal at the nursery thought a root encircling the trunk right below ground level had strangled it. I had never heard of such. I’ll have to get another tree soon as there is nothing left to pollinate the survivor.

    • DM says:

when it fell over, did it completely uproot (or is still a portion of the root in the ground? ) I’ve seen that happen numerous times @ other orchards..the tree becomes so laden with fruit (and trees that are dwarf, semi dwarf, etc) just do not have a strong enough root system to handle the weight. if you haven’t already cut down the tree (and some of the root is still in the soil) may I suggest putting a prop under what’s still there and seeing how it does next year? You might be surprised. to me it there is a spiritual analogy when I see those broken trees…they are broken, yet they continue to bear fruit. Just like some of us 🙂

      • Jon says:

DM, When i found it the tree was “broken” off even with the top of the ground. The roots appeared undisturbed. I put broken in quotes because there seemed to be little splintering like you see from wind damage. The tree was young enough it only had an apple or two on it this year.

      • DM says:

sounds like it may have broken off @ the graft joint. I’ve had that happen before…and if the roots are still viable, they will generate more above ground growth..but it won’t be the same tree as the piece that was broken off.

Bringing Canadian spirit to a kindred spirit in Iowa! 🙂

You, know, I thought of you when I read that note…and is part of why I decided to share it on the farm blog…wanted you to know some of your people were in our neck of the woods 🙂

That is awesome. Sometimes I feel similar sentiments but don’t leave them in writing (or tell anyone). I probably should. Thanks for posting this, I haven’t been feeling enthusiastic about much, but your posts always get me on track.
