As for shifting gears…Thanks for that post…I’m glad you said there’s no shame in it. To me, it seems wise. Besides, doesn’t farm life normally downshift in the winter?

I hear you, DM. I don’t know if it’s cellular memory or the prompting of the seasons, but I’m getting that urge to stock up for the winter, too. I’d love to get a freezer, but logistically, it’s not going to happen until next year. When I get it, though, look out!! ‘Course, I don’t have a generator, so I need to be a little careful!! Otherwise, I might end up with a mess (if the power goes out for very long!)…..

Is the $2/lb already processed or do you need to pay the locker fees as well. If that price is the already processed price than you got a good deal.

Otherwise – live weight market steers are going for between $0.80 and $0.90 per pound, according to my local auction house.

We purchased a 1/2 beef paying $0.85/lbs live weight and then about $220 in locker fees, but that was in March.

I was always touched by the story of Johnny Appleseed, and felt if I had another life, I’d want to do what he did, just plant food for people and leave that as a legacy.

My grandparents, William Edgar and Louelsa Mason Deer
were from Corning, Iowa. The moved sometime after their marriage to Kolin, Montana and wheat farmed. They left when my Dad was 2 [1921], having lost the farm, but Grandpa urban farmed for many years in St John’s, an area of Portland, Oregon. I got my love of growing things from him.
He always made it seem such a miracle.

I wish you many happy re-enactment years; and good apples.

DM man that was pretty mean. Update your Facebook status to this link with visions of swashbuckling pirate stories only to find out that now (I too) have to make up my own! lol

Incidentally, I made three cruises around the entir Med and never saw a single pirat. However maybe one of the Naval Aviators saw them after they launched of the cats.
