I am on a mission-
To find the perfect cinnamon roll .
I have a picture in my mind what this roll looks like. (see photo above)
It will be at least six inches across, two inches high at the center, covered with white frosting, soft and tender inside.
I’m a general contractor- if you’re a regular reader to my blog you already knew that.
What you may not have known is I will periodically get the itch to “construct” things in the kitchen.
Whats behind this cinnamon roll quest right now you might be wondering?
This past Sunday after Thanksgiving the “itch” to bake hit- hard. I can’t remember why I settled on cinnamon rolls -When you turn 50, , unless you write it down, you forget . found a cinnamon roll recipe on line, followed directions, but substituted one cup of wheat flour for white- wife loved them. But as I looked at them in the middle of our 8 ft white oak trestle table, I had an epiphany, I knew I could do better and secondly, wouldn’t it be fun to offer a cinnamon roll to our guests in the Bed and Breakfast? Then in my mind’s eye, I saw us marketing cinnamon rolls locally…like the ones in the picture.
So here’s the deal- if you know of such a cinnamon roll recipe and would be willing to share it, I would love to hear from you. Wife and I are making plans to systematically experiment starting as soon as this coming Saturday, and once we find “The One” we might even give them out over the holidays.
I don’t have the volume of blog traffic on this blog like I have on my other blog so if you would be willing to pass the word around on this one, at your office, with your friends, etc. I would forever be in your debt.

Random question- What is one of your favorite things to make in the kitchen?
Feel free to include the recipe (but don’t forget about my cinnamon roll quest OK)
I don’t make cinnamon rolls, but there is a new diner in Iowa City called Bluebird Diner (caddy corner from John’s Grocery) with DELICIOUS, HUGE, YEASTY, FABULOUS, HUGE, GREAT cinnamon rolls on their dessert menu. Did I mention that they taste great???!
[...] DM and his wife have apple orchards, a Bed & Breakfast… Oh, and he’s on a search for the perfect Cinnamon Roll recipe: In Search of The Perfect Cinnamon Roll [...]
DM: I just found a possible clue to your search. America’s Test Kitchen (I think you can find it through PBS) has one – it’s in a “premium” section, so since I’m going to have to renew my subscription soon anyway, when I do, I will check on it and get back to you. The promise of “quick” doesn’t sound great, but it could work. The nice thing about their recipes is that they do test them to make them as fool-proof as possible.
Lawyerchik…thank you for the lead….I will look forward to you getting back to me on this one…here’s a thought
maybe you can make a batch, and bring them with you when you visit..or you and Mrs DM can make them together in our state of the art country kitchen.
I would love to – I will let you know this weekend, as my review is Thursday. If it goes badly, I will need at least the whole day Friday to recover!
